History
In February 2005, Howard and Melissa Davis advertised
and held two informational meetings about Christian Classical education.
In May of 2005, Howard put together a board who shared the common vision
of a Christian Classical school in the Shreveport-Bossier area. The founding
board members were Howard Davis, Melissa Davis, Mark Jonker, Stephanie
Jonker, Michael Raggio, Charles Roberts, Lacey Wallace, Vikki Wallace,
and Serena White.
The wives of the board members agreed to join together,
volunteer their time and talent, and start the first school year in August
2005. The school met for its first year (August 2005-May 2006) at Broadmoor
Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. There were 20 students in grades K-3.
In the spring of 2006, a couple of informational meetings were held and
other families began to understand the vision of a Christian classical
school. These families have enrolled their children and joined us in this
endeavor. Even after losing five students due to jobs transferring to
other cities, our enrollment for the 2006-2007 school year
increased to 23 students. We began meeting at First Baptist Bossier.
In the fall of 2007, Providence began its first year
as a full-time private school, meeting five days a week from 8am-3pm.
The 2007-2008 school year began with 46 students in grades K-7th; the
2008-2009 school year began with 72 students in grades K-8th; the 2009-2010
school year proved to be a historical year in terms of growth as our
enrollment grew to over 100 students in grades K-8th. Providence
has also employed an incredible group of teachers whose enthusiasm for
learning is contagious to the students. The board of Providence is prayerfully
and carefully planning for the growth of our school. Through this school,
the prayer is that our students, parents, teachers, families, friends,
and churches will grow in a deeper understanding of God, His character,
and His purposes. |
